Every Appointment

From your first cleaning to a full smile restoration, D Street Dental Group handles it all under one roof, with a doctor who knows your name.

Core Specialty

Restorative Care

Most dental problems end in a restoration. Whether it's a tooth-colored filling or a complete smile rebuild, restorative dentistry is the core of what we do at D Street Dental Group, planned carefully, executed precisely, and built to last.

  • Tooth-colored fillings and direct restorations, completed in a single visit
  • Dental implants, permanent, natural-feeling tooth replacement
  • Crowns and bridges, precision lab-fabricated for damaged or missing teeth
  • Full and partial dentures, functional, comfortable fit
Restorative dental care, D Street Dental Group

Dental Implants →
General & Preventive

Exams, cleanings, X-rays, and fillings, this is the foundation of everything we do. Consistent preventive care is the single best investment in your long-term dental health.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Whitening, porcelain veneers, bonding, and smile design, for results that look natural and last, not just bright for a season.

Porcelain Veneers →
Sleep Apnea Treatment

Snoring or interrupted sleep may point to obstructive sleep apnea. We offer custom oral appliances, a quieter, more comfortable alternative to CPAP for mild-to-moderate sleep apnea in qualifying patients.

Meet Your Dentist

Meet Dr. Steve

Dr. Steve was trusted to teach dental students how to think before they ever touched a tooth. You deserve a dentist held to that same standard, and that is exactly what D Street Dental Group brings to San Rafael.

Dr. Steve Truman, D Street Dental Group, San Rafael
Dr. Steve Truman
UoP Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry Former Clinical Instructor San Rafael, CA

You know how a dental visit can feel like an assembly line? Numbers on a chart, a quick look, a bill you don't quite understand. I'm Dr. Steve Truman, and I built my whole approach around not being that.

Here's what that looks like for you as a patient: I show you what I see, on your own photos and X-rays. We find what caused the problem before we treat it. You'll understand the why, not just the what, and you'll never feel pressured into treatment you don't need. I also pay attention to what your mouth says about the rest of your health, like snoring and sleep apnea. Dentistry is healthcare.

"If you're looking for a dentist who will listen first and treat you like an individual who deserves real answers, I'd like to earn your trust."

Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Quick answers to what patients ask before their first visit.

Yes, we would love to meet you. New patients are always welcome at D Street Dental Group in San Rafael. Your first visit starts with a comprehensive exam and digital X-rays, because the exam always comes first, and a cleaning may be included if time allows. We will walk you through what we find with photos and your X-rays, then build a treatment plan around it, so you leave knowing exactly where your dental health stands. Plan for about 60 to 90 minutes, and call or text (415) 453-0744 to get on the schedule.
We are out of network with all dental PPO plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, Guardian, Anthem Blue Cross, and United Concordia. We file your claim directly, so you can still use your out-of-network benefits, which often cover a good portion of your care depending on your plan. We also offer flexible in-office payment plans and our "D is for Dental" membership for patients who would rather skip insurance altogether. Call (415) 453-0744 and we will walk through what fits your situation.
Yes. We offer flexible in-office payment plans so you can move forward with care on a schedule that works for you. If you do not have insurance, our "D is for Dental" membership is often the simplest way to keep your costs predictable. Call (415) 453-0744 to talk through your options.
Yes. Paying for dental care without insurance worries a lot of patients, so we built a plan that keeps the numbers simple. Our in-house "D is for Dental" membership covers your preventive care for one flat annual fee: 3 professional cleanings a year, exams, digital X-rays, and fluoride at every visit, plus 20% off restorative & major work like fillings, crowns, or implants. Adults pay $1,049 a year or $92 a month. Children under 16 pay $799 a year or $70 a month. Seniors 65 and up pay $949 a year or $83 a month. If you are in treatment for gum disease, the perio plan is $1,349 a year or $119 a month, built around perio maintenance visits rather than standard cleanings. Call (415) 453-0744 and we will help you pick the right fit.
The honest answer is that it depends on your specific case, so we give you an exact quote at your consultation instead of a guess over the phone. Dr. Steve Truman specializes in restorative dentistry, including implants, and will show you the full plan and the price before anything begins, no surprises. D is for Dental members also get 20% off restorative & major work like implants. Call or text (415) 453-0744 to set up a consultation.
D Street Dental Group offers dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, and fillings (restorative care), porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, and bonding (cosmetic dentistry), sleep apnea treatment with custom oral appliances, and complete general and preventive care. We are a family dental practice in San Rafael, and we reserve same-day appointments Monday through Thursday for dental emergencies.
D Street Dental Group is led by Dr. Steve Truman, DDS. He is a graduate of the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where he also served as a clinical instructor training first-year dental students. Dr. Steve specializes in restorative dentistry, including implants, crowns, bridges, and complex cases. He shows patients across San Rafael and Marin County exactly what is happening with photos and X-rays, so you understand what is going on and why.
Yes. For mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea confirmed by a sleep study, we can fit a custom oral appliance that moves your jaw forward to keep the airway open, and we coordinate with your physician, since severe cases are usually best treated with CPAP. We screen for it because snoring and sleep apnea affect your whole-body health, not just your teeth. When the airway collapses during sleep your oxygen drops and your rest suffers, so if you have been told you snore or grind your teeth, it is worth a conversation.
Yes, and a lot of our patients started out feeling exactly that way. We offer nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, and a full comfort menu, and we will tell you exactly what is going to happen before it does. If dental anxiety has kept you away, just mention it when you call (415) 453-0744 and we will build your visit around it.
Yes, we are a family practice and we welcome patients of every age, from kids to grandparents. Many of our families come in together, and our "D is for Dental" membership even has a children's plan for patients under 16. Scheduling the whole family in one block keeps things simple, and we take time so the youngest patients are at ease before anything starts. Call (415) 453-0744 to schedule visits for the family.
Call us at (415) 453-0744 as early in the day as you can. We reserve same-day appointments Monday through Thursday for urgent problems like toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost crowns or fillings, and swelling. Dental pain rarely improves on its own, so do not wait it out. If it is after hours, leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
We are open Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm, with Fridays available by appointment, and we are closed on weekends. We hold same-day emergency slots Monday through Thursday, so call (415) 453-0744 early in the morning if you need urgent care. The best way to lock in a convenient time is to book ahead.
You will find us at 1099 D Street, Suite 206, San Rafael, CA 94901, on the second floor of the building, serving patients throughout San Rafael and Marin County. Free parking is available on-site, with street parking on D Street if you need it. Call (415) 453-0744 if you have any trouble finding us.
Bring a valid photo ID and any dental X-rays from the past two years if you have them. Having recent X-rays on hand saves you from repeating imaging. If you have dental insurance, bring your card and we will help you understand your out-of-network benefits, and most of all, bring any questions on your mind, because your first visit is as much about getting to know you as it is about your teeth.
